Dr Deborah Maw is a contemporary spiritual astrologer, artist, scientist, teacher, speaker, and nomadic grandmother, drawn to the wild edges of both land and soul. She weaves together the celestial and the earthly—the wisdom of the stars with the wild wyrdness of life.
Her lifelong journey blends science, spirituality, creativity, and adventure. Beginning her career as a renowned published biochemist and qualified science teacher, Deborah shifted course at 25, dropped out of mainstream life, became a solo entrepreneur, and embarked on a profound spiritual path that continues to evolve.
Deborah's new path led her to all forms of complementary medicine and in 1995 she received a Diploma in Astrological Counselling and, at age 50, added to her qualifications a Foundation Degree in Art and Design specializing in upcycling waste materials. She has since become a passionate teacher and speaker, known for teaching both Environmental Arts and Upcycled Fashion Design, and for translating complex scientific principles into accessible, engaging presentations that inspire and uplift. Deborah describes herself as an Eco-SciArtist and runs two associated businesses: Magical Journeys Design (redesigned fashion) and Something From Nothing (art from reclaimed waste).
Deborah is also the founder of SoulStar, an astrology-based framework for conscious evolution that includes the radically different StarWisdom Astrology Course, StarGazing presentations, and the StarLight Lounge community. Through SoulStar, she helps others navigate the unfolding cycles of human consciousness and align with their soul’s potential.
A true digital nomad, Deborah travels internationally, speaking and inspiring audiences with her unique blend of cosmic insight, creativity, and heartfelt storytelling. Her workshops, retreats and talks range from the Science of Astrology, the 2024-2029 SoulStar Portal and Astrodrama to The Way of the Fae: Unlocking Your Creative Genius, The Art of Play, and Aligned Authenticity. In 2023 Deborah ran her Way of the Fae Retreat for MTV's most popular reality show, Teen Mum. The young mum had a massive transformation which has since developed into a new career following her passion.

Deborah never makes a long trip without including a wild adventure—usually long-distance walking and wild camping. She has walked Tasmania's Overland Track, the Terania Creek Trail in NSW, the Lake Superior Trail in Minnesota, the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island, the Tramuntana Trail in Mallorca, The Ridgeway, and about 600 miles of the round Britain coastal trail.
In 2012, Deborah embraced a new passion—water travel. She spent two years navigating solo the English waterways system living on a traditional canal barge, went to the US in 2014 by cargo ship, and in 2017, at age 60, she sailed around the UK with eXXpedition sampling microplastics in coastal waters—this was followed by Sky and the documentary featuring Deborah, A Plastic's Voyage, which is available to watch.
The following year Deborah made a solo expedition canoeing the Leeds Liverpool Canal, again sampling for microplastics in inland waterways. This sparked a whole new series of nationwide talks on microplastics, illustrated with stunning microscopic images of coloured fragments and photos of her trips. Since then, she has volunteered with CatZero, combining her love of sailing with community service.
In 2014 Deborah chose to become a van lifer; she says that living outdoors changes your brain chemistry. Since receiving her free bus pass, Deborah has embraced the slow meanderings of public buses. Her first book, Radical Trust (soon to be published), is a travel memoir and spiritual compass born from a bus journey along the entire length of the wild Pacific coast of the US. It tells a story of surrender, courage, and finding home in the unknown. Next trip—around the UK by bus.
Deborah has three children living abroad, and four granddaughters. Visiting is always an invitation for another adventure.
Deborah’s core values are Freedom, Beauty and Light
translated in her words as
Wild, Wyrd, and WonderFull
a reminder that the sacred often hides in plain sight,
waiting to be met with an open heart.
